How about the sound-transmission?
How about the sound-transmission?
Hi,
then you could use this program for e-learning. Show people things on the screen and speak to them in the same time.

Well if your main pc has windows xp installed you can get for free windows media encoder from microsoft website and use it to broadcast audio to other computers leaving wmp open, or you can use a shoutcast server and a small winamp running in background or any other free alternative for voice broadcasting (voice broadcasting... web radio... in your case it's just the same thing). Also by using windows media encoder with media player you can have other users seeing your desktop (there's an option to use as video source your desktop somewhere in the encoder) so you won't need to mess up with multiple programs at once.

How about the sound output of programs ?
More and more is audio used as part of the user interface.
It is like color graphics. First it was nonexistent. The few people had it and few programs used it. Then more people had it and more programs used it.
Today everyone has color graphics and most programs would not work on a monochromatic system.
It's the same with sound (only delayed a few years).

Sound output
I've found that Windows Remote Desktop has this feature but I can't use the program (only have Home Edition). Bringing the sound from the server to the veiwer is a great idea!
going to V2 only !
7 Aug 2005 Ultr@VNC 1.0.1 is out (without sound and without print redirect)

Hi redge!
Will the sound-transmission be able in both directions or just from the host to the client? If the transmission will work in both directions, it would be possible to control programs with sound input.
And: Can you already say anything about the release-date of version 2? The "few weeks" you talked about in october are over, aren't they...?;)
Greetings

Also interested in Sound
I'm also interested in being able to receive and transmit sounds using UltraVNC. I've already got UltraVNC installed in my application and I've everyone loves the fact that we can help them with their problems remotely. However, now they don't want to have to worry about having a phone with them also.
Does anyone use UltraVNC and another voice application successfully? I'd be interested in hearing about that.
Thanks,
Barney

Current not, still in "paper" phase.
The problem is that the sound data traffic and vnc data has other chars,
sound need to be bidirectional, while vnc data is mostly server to viewer
and stream is controled by one site.
Two possible ways how it can be implemented.
1)
Server and viewer will listen to an other port (sound port)
VNC data and sound data need to be mapped in a single port (5800)
extern: single tcp port
This would allow us to use any sound app ( there are many available)
that can work over a single tcp port.
2)
All communication is done over udp.
VNC data is mapped to udp
sound data (2 ports) is mapped to udp
extern: single udp port
This would allow us to use standard voip on the sound ports (2xudp)
No time set.

Re: How about the sound-transmission?
6 years are a long time
Did anything happen about the sound-transmission?.
I've tried a few methods but none of them were satisfying.
- Winamp+Shoutcast as Server, Winamp as Listener: unstable delays between <2sec and >10sec, good quality
- TS3 with TS3-Server on the Listener's PC: <1sec delay (but still notable), nearly acceptable sound quality, NO DIRECT VOLUME-CONTROL
- VLC as Server and Listener: Delay and quality like Winamp but difficult to get it working (even easier to read the commented shoutcast config than trying like 500 streaming methods I've never heard before).
So it really would be nice to have a low delay sound transmission in VNC that controls the quality my itself and got a volume control.

Re: How about the sound-transmission?
Well, in that time most people have started using Skype and various other VoIP implementations instead. Many are embeddable as web page links. Lots of conferencing software includes VoIP conference features. I have a thread on the forum about free and open source videoconferencing, with pointers to some of the projects, but there are a lot of choices out there. The UltraVNC developers (Rudi) are working on some cool new things, but as far as I know sound isn't even on the list.
That's not to say that someone COULDN'T contribute the feature, particularly as a plugin to some of the later versions.
