Single click - really not usable on WIndows 7? SOOOO slow?

Post by babaganoosh »

Am I doing something wrong? I've used VNC Single click for years with XP and its great. I try to make a connection to a win 7 machine and it is sooooo slooooow / really not usable - 10s of seconds to show what I typed. this is on a 100 Mb LAN.

THANKS!

SC is getting old and doesn't support Vista/7 very well.

Consider upgrading to UltraVNC 1.0.8.2, it supports SC features via command line.

getting old : (

Is there instructions for deploying 1.0.8.2 like single Click - I have users download that app, run it and I have it set to auto connect to me. 1 file to download / run, no install, etc. all the great things about SC.

does that all go away? You need to bundle the batch file command line with the untravnc, so that's at least 2 files right there?

For Vista you can have the user switch the Desktop Theme to "Windows Classic" and it will run much faster.

you may want to walk them through saving thier Deskto Theme 1st though.

Hi guys!

We have been using UltraVNC off windows xp for several years and customers have been migrating to windows 7, I was just wondering
if it is possible to automatically change the theme off windows 7 to windows classic?

Assuming that you're real (this thread is over a year old), you could script it ( Google turns up http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm? ... 393&page=1 )

But it's probably rude to do that to your "customers", so change it back when you're done.

Yes I'm real lol...
We would need alot of time connecting to our customer's end.
Can you do a walk through on how to do this?
Should I do the scripting on our exe?

No, I've never done it, sorry.

But it should be straightforward to add the relevant script lines from gspino's code in that tek-tips thread into ChunkVNC's existing Auto-IT script.

If ChunkVNC isn't a good fit, I would probably just write the WSH script version and host it somewhere, downloading it to the user station after connecting traditionally.

But maybe there's an easier way? I don't know. :(

Is ChunkVNC capable of this?
Cuz as much as possible we would like to keep it simple :D
I'll have my IT Manager look into the link that you gave me.

I only mention ChunkVNC because it's written in Auto-IT already. The significant drawback (arguably) to ChunkVNC is that it expects and relies on you establishing a permanent running repeater -- not a huge deal but you need to know what you're doing. You may or may NOT want the ease and mobility that the ChunkVNC repeater setup affords you.

You could also just learn and copy from his (supercoe's) code enough to go your own way in adding this "feature" of theme changing. Finally, you could make a request in the ChunkVNC subforum here that he consider adding it to his program.
