Hi.
Long time user, first time poster!
I have been using this system for a long time and thought if this could be made into a fully web based system using java applets for viewer and server.
My setup theory is as follows
1. Web Server (Small webserver, capable of basic CGI) to deploy the java viewer and server
2. Repeater (to accept connections from viewer and server)
I am currently using the Linux version of repeater 014, and have also installed mini_httpd for deploying the applets. The cgi will allow the user to select the ID for server connection and select the ID for the viewer
Example:
1. User requiring support, browses to webserver
2. CGI lists available ports
3. User selects ID
4. Java server is sent to users' browser and connects to specified ID on repeater
5. Support user also browses to webserver
6. CGI lists available ports
7. Support user selects corresponding ID
8. Java viewer is send to support users' browser and connects to corresponding ID
Connection established through java!!
This would eliminate the need for installation of clients being installed, make the selection of ID's.
It would also eliminate the need for seperate clients being developed for different platforms (one of the fundamental reasons for java!)
I would guess that most of the hard work has already been done, because the servers and clients have already been developed in java - they just need a bit of tweaking (could the code from the UVNC viewer repeater section be replicated for the java viewer? I understand mode 2 is broken at the moment for java viewer..?)
Sadly, I'm not a C or Java programmer, so this obviously is all theoretical and of course, I'm only going on what has been developed before. I am however, a frequent programmer of BASH and PHP cgi so I could help with the design of the browser interfaces...
I'd welcome any comments anyone has.
Cheers.
