Disable Local Input (But DONT blank monitor)

Post by Dan2222 »

Request:

I would like to see an option to disable the users mouse and keyboard without blanking their monitor, so they can see what I am doing, but can't control anything.

Maybe just split the current button which disables input and blanks monitor into 2 buttons. One for disabling the input and another for blanking the monitor. (OR one that does both, and one that just does the mouse and keyboard)

The reason I would like to see this is:

I work in a school and have uVNC installed on all of the pupils machines.
If I connect to a machine and try to control it, the pupils fight with me (i.e. they keep moving the mouse when I'm trying to). So I disable their mouse and keyboard and blank their monitor. The problem then is that they think their computer isn't working, and press or hold the power button which shuts it down and stops me anyway.

Thanks
Dan

I am in the same boat as Dan above. If i see students working on the machines, I skip the machines so that i do not upset their work. But, if i am working on a system that does not have anyone on it and I dont want students in the lab to see what I am doing I need to Blank out the screen and disable the inputs. My problem is that if I am working with a blanked out screen, then the students have no idea and just assume the computer has frozen on them and they hold the power button in and kill whatever i am doing. I would love the option to place a message on the screen along with the disable inputs. A static message like " Computer is in use By Administrator" but would be nice if there was a place in the server settings to place a custom message to display. ty

Yes, you can have a message on the server screen by using the
"Enable Blank Monitor on Viewer Request" + "Enable Alpha-Blending Screen Blanking"

Thanks for the reply, that's really useful. It would still be nice to have an option to disable local input without blanking the monitor though.

Thanks again

There is just one button on the viewer, but it does what you set up on server. I use VNC in school too, and I have just unchecked Enable Blank Monitor on Viewer Request in properties window on the server. So if you don't like to use monitor blanking at all, this is a solution for you.

On the other hand if you want to control blanking and inputs separately, this is not what you want to hear.
