Hello,
I couldn t understand if this is already possible or not so :
would it be possible to transform a PC into a thin client over a LAN using ultravnc ?
for example with 2 PCs : PC1 as serveur or host and PC2 as guest/thin client
1) enable 2 virtual desktops on pc1
2) allow the user of pc1 to work on the virtual desktop n°1
3) allow a distant user to access pc1 from pc2 by ultravnc
4) pc2 has access and control of the virtual desktop n°2 and can work in parallel
2 users working in parallel on the same pc : 1 local, 1 distant
pc2 using software and hardware of pc1 that is to say pc2 beeing a thin client (only need a light OS and a vnc client)
thanks
yod

2users in parallel :1 local +1 distant - thin client ?
Re: 2users in parallel :1 local +1 distant - thin client ?
remote desktop of windows xp professional + ultravnc
every user local and distant use their own desktop without interfering the other+ share the current user logged.
or
xp professional with VirtualBox with remote desktop enabled.
so is virtual computer2 inside the computer 1 without interfering the host but can use USB peripheral of computer1

Re: 2users in parallel :1 local +1 distant - thin client ?
hello redge,
thanks for your answer.
however I did not fully get your point :
Remote desktop (RD )xp pro + ultravnc :
in XP pro, when using the remote desktop, it is not possible to have several sessions at the same time.
if user1 is working on pc1 locally and user2 on pc2 opens a distant session by RD through the LAN, it will disconnect user1.
I don t understand how to use UVNC and RD in parallel to have 2 sessions in parallel on the same PC,
could you please explain me more in detail ?
VirtualBox :
I read Virtualbox is based on Qemu.
I already tried to run an light OS (damn small linux) in a Virtual machine with Qemu+Kqemu on my desktop. It works and I think the VM could be reached by the LAN using RD but all this is very slow.
it requires to have a monster machine to run the VM and achieve a correct speed, especially if the VM is xp or vista.
on the other hand
if VNC could take only partial control of the host PC (only a few apps) then a normal PC should be able to have 2 sessions running in parallel
am I wrong ?
thanks

could you please explain me more in detail ?
It was exist as native over XP SP2 beta and removed to final release of XP SP2 by MS

Re: 2users in parallel :1 local +1 distant - thin client ?
Hello redge,
I heard about this way to allow several remote desktop connexion simultaneously on xp pro.
however I think this is not supported by MS (+what about legal stuff ?)
and could lead to security issues
that s why I was searching a different way to do more or less the same thing
and I think it would be possible using VNC
especially after I ve discovered the UVNC option : share only 1 window
what I am looking for would be exactly this function of the server but for several application (possible to have several server running in parallel ?)
but this function does not work :
each time I cross the check box, nothings happens
and the checkbox is again blank when looking at it the next time
any progress on this, guess it is a bug ?
thanks

Re: 2users in parallel :1 local +1 distant - thin client ?
share only 1 windows is known bug not fixed.
if you really need this function working asap, you need to turn to vnc related products

actually, I don t need anything asap.
I discovered the UVNC project recently, I think the developpers did a great job and I find it great to be under the GPL
I posted here, as I think the 2 users in // thing could be an interesting feature for UVNC, especially as UVNC is already close to provide it.
I will follow news about the single windows bug fix
thanks
