I install UltraVNC to all of my clients computers.
For security reason, UltraVNC server is NOT automatically started. So at times when they need for help, I have to tell them how to start the server over the phone. & you know, some users are really computer novice, and tell them how to start the server is sometimes a headache.
Problem 1
The UltraVNC default start menu is sometimes confusing:
An item with "UltraVNC Server >" (with submenus)
then another item "UltraVNC Server"
You ask the client to click on the item "UltraVNC server" then you have to emphasize that to click on the one without the little triangle....
It is better to change either label a bit, like the one with submenus into "UltraVNC Server Options" (for example) to remove this confusion.
or the other one into "Start UltraVNC server", just a suggestion.
Problem 2
Even the client claimt he had started it, you have no way to know if he really did.
And then came the next challenge, either you ask them for their IPs (it is sometimes helpless if they have a router@ home, & also you have no way to setup the p/w beforehand), OR, the better choice, ask the user to do a right click on the loaded icon and then "add new client"
The challenge is, you have to ask if they see a little blue eye on the system tray. (Some may ask what is the system tray) (some simply said then don't see it, though it may or may not be there) (or they have some other icon there that looks like a blue eye) & some novice user don't really know what is a RIGHT click (wipe that smile on your face pls)
To simplify this situation, the better setup could be:
An item that says "Start UltraVNC server & Call for help"
This will start the VNC server and then pops up to ask for an IP. (which is my computer and should be fairly easy for anyone to key in the number I tell them over the phone & then click CONNECT)
