UltraVNC SC Feature request

Post by CBailey »

First, I think the concept of SC is great. I'm really amazed nobody's done it before! I got the source code, and started making my own SC a few months ago, but have abandoned my efforts because of SC.

Would it be possible, on starting SC, to have a short list of servers to choose from, with an option to enter in a name or IP address? I fix computers for a living, and would like to distribute a single program that my Technicians could also use while they are home. That way, the customer either picks my server, a Technician's server, or enters the Technician's current Dynamic IP address.

Doable right now!

If I understand you correctly then I believe SC already has that capability.

Actually there are a couple ways of doing it. You could use the included repeater software or set up DDNS url's in the compiled executable.

I prefer the second option for simplicity. Each technician has a DDNS url in the executable. When the customer runs the executable they see several technicians in the connection option box.

For example:
Joe
Tom
Bob
etc.

Each link is associated with their respective DDNS url's in the executable. This is all easily done in the text file you edit before submitting to the creater program on the UltraVNC SC website.

For example:
joesupport.dyndns.org
tomsupport.dyndns.org
bobsupport.dyndns.org

Say they are talking to Bob on the phone. Bob simply tells them to click on "Bob". Now say Bob is at home instead of at the office. Before Bob tells them to click on "Bob" he will ensure that the DynDNS url has his home IP associated with bobsupport.dyndns.org which is the. You are effectively using dyndns.org as your repeater instead of doing it from your own server. It works VERY very well!

You're right.... I made that statement before actually making up my own SC. The reason I left it was because of my request for being able to put in a field to manually enter an IP address, so a Technician could work from home. Actually, the VNC Repeater seems to be a better solution, if only I could get it to work, and not crash my server :)
