UltraVNC (v1.02) with Win XP Pro and Fast User Switching

Post by Kwisatz »

In searching I couldnt find anything really recent with regards to using Win XP Pro with Fast User Switching (FUS). FUS is something I really do need to use with this PC (stand-alone, no domain) and I cant seem to find out how I can get it to work. I did read something about using port 5900 for the initial session and then it switching to 5901 when it logs-on... port-forwarding both those ports didnt make any difference though (at least nothing noticeable).

The behavior I am experiencing is that I can connect to the machine fine, and after entering the password I am shown the User screen to select a user. I select my user, enter my password... and then I get a black screen just a second before the whole VNC session closes.

Both machines are running UltraVNC v1.02... any idea what I might be doing wrong or what can I do to make a 'best effort' at getting UltraVNC to work with FUS?

Thanks for any help!

I feel bad asking for more info - I am going to install the software but in the release notes I didnt see anything about FUS. Is it maybe a 'quiet' release of support? Meaning it 'kind of' does it?

Thanks for any further info (or good links)!

The RC are test canidates for the next release of uvnc. There are some slight bugs in them yet but if you need FUS support those will do it..)

I'll have to give it another go tonight... I had removed v1.02 and then immediately went to install the RC and it installed the viewer but no Server. No Server icon was in the Program group and no VNC service was created either. Maybe I should have rebooted after uninstalling v1.02.

Anyhow I'll give it another try; just in case though if you've heard of this before let me know if you have any tips.

Thanks again for all the help!

reboot your pc after installation. The tray icon should appear. :)
