Cannot connect to server error

Post by amsnet »

I have checked all the posts on this but they do not solve my problem. Normally, I use Viewer to connect to my clients pc's and their tech installs VNC server. Now I have a situation where on of my suppliers wishes to test some of their software on my machine and require VNC access. I have installed the latest version of VNC Server and set the port to 5900. A password has been set. I use Trend PC Cillin for the firewall and set to allow winvnc.exe to access port 5900. The windows firewall is turned off.

I use ADSL via a Thompson Speedtouch modem port 10.0.0.1. on an XP Pro SP2 machine with dual core P4 and 4gb RAM.

The supplier trying to log on gets the 'Cannot connect to server error' message. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Nev

Can you post url capture screen shot of your vncviewer
vnc server need running to be reacheable.

you need to reach external IP address of your partner router, not internal ip address !
Only his router need forward port 5900 to their own internal port

if you think to much complicate, try below:
you don't need to modify anything on your routers and most of firewall.

Hi Redge
I am not sure if I have understodd this correctly. Is it necessary for me to runnung Viewer as well as Server for external site to log on?
We have only been running Server this end.

you don't need vncviewer and vnc server running as same time

but ...
for reach the remote vnc server, their winvnc (partner) should running to be reachable from local vnc viewer (you)
and
inverse the friend become vncviewer want to reach your own winvnc , you become server.

hope this better explanation.
