The config file "ultravnc.ini" was in the same folder as winvnc.exe
The new location is %programdata%ultravnc
The installer should copy the current ultravnc.ini to the new location... this file also contain the password.

Please check if the ultravnc.ini was proper copied

Found fallback wasn't working
If nothing is copied he should used the old location.

You can see the cascade in the settings->log

On the subject of using command line options to override the options.ini file... I don't think it is working right now.
Is there a list of command line options, in case I am not using the correct options?

I launch vncviewer.exe using two different batch files (based on which PCs I am connecting to).
One is:
vncviewer.exe /autoscaling /viewonly /encodings ultra2
and the other is:
vncviewer.exe /autoscaling /viewonly /encodings XZYW
I enter different IPs/names depending on which launch I am using.
Neither are starting in viewonly mode.
Both are connecting with the XZYW Encoding. That was the last encoding I set manually using the options button.

My thought would be that the program loads the options.ini file settings (getting all the settings) then for any valid option on the command line, the command line option would change or override the setting that was in the options.ini file.

I think it would be convenient if when you launch the UltraVNC Viewer, the default field accepting input would be the field with the address for connection

Quick feedback...
I just downloaded the latest dev release 1.5.0.7 3/1/2025 (2nd release on this date). The installer: UltraVNC_1507_x64_Setup.exe hangs at:
Registering UltraVNC service...
I tried this twice, just to be sure.
The previous dev release dated 3/1/2025 (1st release on this date) did not have this problem.

i try to make a "silent" install for SCCM

"%~dp0UltraVNC_1507_x64_Setup.exe" /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /loadinf="%~dp0InstallConfView.inf"


but still have this popup "target file ultravnc.ini already exist"
(and when it does not exist, i got another popup)

possible to disable this popup ? to have an installation that is really VERYSILENT ?

Was you able todo some test to see if the ini was proper copied.
Popup's will be removed in next update, they are only there to know what happen in the installer in case something goes wrong

Hi Rudi,
when trying 1.5.0.9, the line
DSMPluginConfig= .....
is missing in ultravnc.ini, so the plugin settings are not saved.

Another little bug found - when pressing some international keys during session, they are are ignored, in Win 10, LangID 0x41B sk-SK , the accented letters "š , ť , ř , ž " - ALT+0154 , ALT+0157 , ALT+0248 , ALT+0158
I tried combinations of server settings "International keys" and "alternate keyboard", but no luck.

Ivanhoe, seems I also need to update the plugin for the new location of the .ini... I guess the plugin is still wrinting in the current folder instead of the ProgramData.

Which would be correct. Actually %ProgramData% is for data and not program/code files. So I believe storing plugins, DLLs or similar data there is not the intended use.

Hi Rudi,
tried install of 1.5.0.10 over 1.4.3.6. When you've enabled "start or restart UltraVNC service" during installation, the service starts after install, but initially it's using C:\Program Files\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC\ultravnc.ini
And also the ultravnc.ini file gets copied to C:\ProgramData\UltraVNC\ folder, but service does not use this copy when started after installation.
Later, when you stop the service and start it again, it switches to use the ultravnc.ini from new location C:\ProgramData\UltraVNC\
So I believe the service should use new ini location just after the installation.

The start menu shortcut "UltraVNC Server settings" should have "Run as admin" enabled, otherwise settings changes are not saved.
But anyway, when opening "UltraVNC Server settings" from start menu (as admin), plugin properties cannot be edited neither, the plugin properties window doesn't appear at all.

The missing accented letters (š,ť,ř,ž) still don't appear on the other side (server: settings enabled "Internationa keys" and "Alternative keyboard",
viewer: settings enabled "japanese keyboard"), the "?" is displayed instead of actual character.

It's not the DSMplugin that need to change his location, but the plugin settings need to be saved to the correct ini file.
Depending how winvnc is started that can be PF, PD, AD

Code was changed, but i just forgot to add the save to ini function

Looking great, I also really like that the server settings are now in one window
noticed a cosmetic bug there, in "Capture": the Max-FPS-Number-Display doesn't change when moving the slider; you have to click "OK" and reopen the settings, to see what you changed it to :p
or you could count the ticks of course, if you're bored
otherwise it looks great, will test it some more.

Hi Rudi,
when running as admin the new "Ultravnc server settings" from start menu, and using DSM plugin, clicking "configure encryption",plugin config window does not appear (unlike when you right click running server icon, Setting, then dsm plugin windows appears).

Also clicking "configure ms-logon groups", config window does not appear.
