How do you make the SC grab the IP of the machine it's being run on?

Run Noip.coms software or dynamic DNS application over the internet. Then it will automatically forward it to whatever IP you have by them changing their record.

or get a static IP address.. but sometimes your cost is 10 bucks a month for something that you could accomplish by never turning off your router / cable modem.
