LAN 100Mbit/s -- WLAN 125Mbits/s same subnet
quick option=auto
viewer RC20.6 xp sp2 home fr +dsmplugin (no lang.dll)
host: RC20.5 service + dmplugin +video hook on xp sp2 pro us
dmsplugin: MSRC4plugin_noreg116 or AESplugin001

I was stoping..restart winvnc before try new test with another dsmplugin
there no animated icons, no macromedia flash, only cursor blinking on edit webpage UltraVNC

network WLAN slow down more more...when high traffic until WLAN 125Mbits/s crash with dsmplugin MSRC4plugin_noreg
even no traffic, the WLAN can slow down until 11Mbit/s !

MSRC4plugin_noreg 116
every update viewer emit ~10sec ~3 Kbytes data was tranfered even there no update on host with static page with cursor blinking "|" on webpage UltraVNC

AESplugin 001
every update viewer emit ~10sec ~3Kbytes data was transfered.
less problem about stability of WLAN 125Mbits/s to 48Mbits/s when there no update on host or very a little bit update of cursor blinking "|" on webpage UltraVNC


I can tell now MSRC4plugin_noreg 1.1.6 less stable and crash WLAN so much more than the new AESplugin 0.0.1 :o

Interesting and completley unscientific observation. The MSRC4 plugin is able to push about 2-3X as much data as the AES plugin. I ran a test over my wireless (cause I was on the couch, not because I wanted to test with wireless...) and the MSRC4 plugin was pumping about 11-13,000 kbits/s. The AES plugin was pumping 3-5000 kbits/s. Same client, same server, same activity on the server screen.

I think its your router that's less stable, not the plugin. :D

Seriously, it appears that your router can't handle the throughput. The AES plugin is slower than the MSRC4 plugin. It appears to me that the AES plugin is throttling the speed of the data getting pumped through the router. That is what is keeping your router from crashing.

If you want to test the theory, turn off encryption on the router. Test the two plugins. And then turn encryption back on!

Next week, I have new ADSL with WLAN with hardware support 3DES encryption over VPN integrated from Billion, I believe, would be better .... 0:-)

I meant turn off the WPA/TKIP encryption, but still use the plugin.

If you have the time to test it for me I'd really appreciate it. You are not the only one to report this now. I'd like a more definitive answer than "its probably your cheap wireless router!"

P.S. I just finished a "white paper" for my company on wireless security, and WPA/TKIP is more stressful for wireless routers than WEP was. Most wireless routers were built for WEP encryption only (RC4), and then their firmware upgraded to WPA/TKIP (RC4 with a TKIP wrapper) with the vendor praying that the processor in the router wouldn't fry under the additional load.

WPA2 wireless routers were built from the ground up to support AES (wrapped in TKIP) encryption (in addition to WPA's RC4 wrapped in TKIP) with some sort of coprocessor, so they shouldn't have any problems with the load.

I was tested successful 3 hours without any crash ! :-)
edit : I was tested successful 7 hours without any crash ! :-)

wireless not encrypted, only used dsmplugin msrc4_noreg116

stress test:
  • 1 video.avi (320x240x32),
  • many opened tabs of web browser
  • Instant messager
  • ftp with total commander
next message with feedback about wlan+WEP 40bits and dsmplugin msrc4_noreg116

Yup. Of course WEP is basically useless....

As soon as you go to WPA I'll bet it starts crashing. Somebody (manufacturer) miscalculated big-time!
