Re: uvnc latest versions speed issues

This I can say version 1.0.2 has been the best version so far for XP. I believe after that version they were trying to make things work on Vista. I can certainly say that I am impressed with version 1.0.6.5 and how it runs on Windows 7. I still need to do further testing but I can tell you that 1.0 ...

Drops connection after logging onto Windows XP

This problem is repeating itself. I will connect to the remote machine running 1.0.6.5 and it will be on the Windows XP login screen. It will drop the connection after logging into Windows.

Re: VNC Scan Enterprise Console - Designed by UltraVNC users

I am curious how did you program it to look like Outlook? I am working on developing a non-related program that I would like to have a similar look to Outlook (or even iTunes would be cool).

Logging

I would like to see logging implemented in UltraVNC. Basically, just log a list of ip addresses and the times they took control of the machine.

I thought of this idea this morning when someone peeked into my system for a second and it was too quick for me to right click on the eye and list all ...

From what I understand, I think we will need to wait until the codebase is rewritten. Until then it does not make sense to port it to any other platforms. So we need to push up the rewrite of the code and then they could implement programming teams and variants such as a Mac OS X version could start ...

Hey I just recently found out another program has already done what we are thinking of. I installed FileZilla on my system and during the setup process it asks you if you want to use the registry or an xml file. It recommends using the registry if you have multiple users on the same computer or it ...

I personally can't stand anything less than 256 colors unless I am truly convinced the bandwidth is not there.

I do not know how the color palette works when it goes down to 64 colors but I believe there could be a better way to do 64 colors. It seems to me like UVNC is changing the colors which ...

What advantages would we achieve by having a server binary that is only compatible with the NT platform? Full Unicode support. This is especially important if your files have file names which are in different languages and you want to use the FT!

Makes good sense! We should push for that goal ...

I find this idea interesting. Would going to XML make it easier to port UltraVNC to other operating systems? Should we be worried about security issues if it is in XML? What problems could we end up dealing with?

Well, the reason I suggested it is because are we talking a major overhaul to redo the codebase? Is this something that could take many months or are we talking a few weeks? We might want to keep the new code seperate until it is completed because bugs and fixes might come up for the existing 1.0 ...

Maybe we could shoot for a BSD version of UltraVNC and in turn that should work on MacOS X.

We would need to wait though for the codebase to be redone with UltraVNC 2.0. If the codebase was modular it would make the task significantly easier of rewriting it for BSD or Mac OS X.

Maybe we could get ...

One last suggestion on the modular codebase, I think it should be done as a side project like Mozilla did with Firefox. How about UltraVNC Starlight for the name? (just trying to think up something creative) Then when it's complete maybe bring it back over as UltraVNC and call it version 2.0 ...

I have seen call monitor systems that record the screen while the enduser is on a call. I wonder if they were done with VNC? I'm sure this couldn't be too hard to do.

Okay, let me summarize from the chat:

modular design of the codebase (no matter whether RVNC 3 or 4)
This includes to split the project into parts which can be split easily.
Open the team (CVS direct access) to more cool developpers (Oliver, Marsha, lizard... ?) (Sam speaking ;) )

First off, no matter what we must never ever break compatibility. That would be the kiss of death! I partially dis agree. Why? Well, first of all we are thinking to change the codebase and back/foreporting can be much more tedious than coding from scratch.

Second, if you talk of compatibility with ...
