I have been able to reproduce this problem on two Windows 2003 Servers (not SBS) at two different sites.

Posted the following before I became aware that this was a Windows 2003 problem.

I have created a direct connection server and a client and tested these successfully on my own workstation. I then created a remote profile, changing the port number for the listener and using a different host ip address. The following connection properties were set:
